New Public Health Center & Deck

New Public Health Center & Parking Deck Site Plan

Project Summary

Wake County completed the 20-Year Human Services Master Plan, which identified improvements to the service delivery process and outlined occupancy scenarios that align with the community’s long-term service delivery needs. The selected scenario identified the need for a new Public Health Facility, as the existing Public Health Building, located at 10 Sunnybrook Road, no longer aligns with the service delivery goals set forth in the Master Plan.

Wake County has located the new Public Health Center on a county-owned 15-acre property located along Swinburne Street and bordered by Falstaff and Kidd roads. The site currently houses the five-story Swinburne Human Services building as well as two additional social services facilities off Falstaff Road.

The two facilities along Falstaff have been demolished to provide a sufficiently clear footprint to build the new four-story, 154,000 SF Public Health Center building and associated five-level parking deck, which will create a Wake County Health & Human Services Campus. The new facility design and the campus’ long-term goals are to incorporate the Health & Human Services Integration Model for a more coordinated service delivery and holistic approach to serving Wake County residents.
Public art will also be included in this project, as it meets the requirements identified in the Wake County Public Art Ordinance.

The first phase of construction for the project began in Winter 2022 and is expected to be completed in three years, with the grand opening projected for early 2026.
