Vision of Wake County Faith Coalition

Unify, educate and inspire the faith communities of Wake County.
Unify:
- Provide opportunities where faith communities and leaders are able to network, develop new ideas for education and relay this information to their communities
Educate:
- Provide educational programming that is culturally sensitive and age appropriate
- Encourage faith communities to incorporate HIV prevention in their health ministries’ programming
Inspire:
- Increase communication and stimulate conversation surrounding sexual health and HIV and prevention
- Instill the spirit of optimism in faith communities to take control with respect to their sexual health
About the Wake County Faith Coalition
In 2017, there were 1,310 new cases of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and a total of 35,045 people living with HIV in North Carolina. Out of these new cases, Blacks/African Americans accounted for 63% of diagnoses – disproportionately higher than any other ethnic group.
Through unification, education and empowerment, the Wake County Faith Coalition hopes to expand the communication about sexual health in faith communities and work to eliminate the HIV disparity associated with the Black/African American community.
We work to:
- Ensure that faith communities have accurate and relevant education regarding sexual health and HIV prevention;
- Promote communication between faith leaders and create partnerships to eliminate stigma; and
- Offer support/assistance to faith communities and encourage them to become more involved in issues related to HIV.
