Planning Your Visit

Social Stories
Prior to their visit, families and individuals can visit their library location’s webpage which includes a social story, providing photos and information about what to expect while visiting the library. This also shows which sensory features are available and where they can access them, including how to get a KultureCity® Sensory Bag.

Sensory Kits
Each of Wake County’s 23 libraries has Sensory Inclusive signage, weighted lap pads, and sensory bags that contain noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, visual cue cards, feeling thermometers and a KultureCity® VIP lanyard to create a welcoming experience.

Programming & Services

Sensory Storytime
Sensory Storytimes are welcoming interactive programs designed for families of autistic children and/or those who have sensory needs. These storytimes are geared towards preschool-aged children (3-5 years old); however, all ages are welcome. Check our current Sensory Storytime offerings for upcoming dates and locations

One-on-One Service Appointments
Schedule a one-on-one appointment with a librarian to assist with basic computer skills, job hunting, proctoring tests, research advice, and more. To learn more and discover which are available in-person and virtually or make a reservation visit our Appointments page.

Technology

Free PC Access
All WCPL locations offer public access computers and Wi-Fi services to Wake County residents. Non-resident visitors that present identification can be issued a PC Use Only card free of charge. This card allows access to public computers, internet, and e-resources within the library.

Adaptive Keyboards
Large print computer keyboards with high contrast characters for visually impaired individuals are available at every library location.

Trackball Mouse
Adaptive mouse designed for users with a variety of accessibility requirements, providing an adaptive solution for individuals who may lack fine motor skills. Available at all library locations.

Book Resources

Books on the Go
Books on the Go offers a convenient, no-contact book pickup service. Simply reserve your books, and pick them up at the library entrance, ready and packed in a bag. We offer a wide selection of books, Book Discussion Titles, and Book Club Kits, all available by reservation.

Large-Print Books
Our large-print collection features books with larger text, making it easier to read for individuals with low vision.

Enjoy the convenience of borrowing e-books and e-audiobooks anytime, anywhere. Use your library account to access a wide selection of electronic print and audio resources. Accessible Books and Library Services
The State Library of North Carolina Accessible Books and Library Services (SLNC-ABLS) is a special public library that circulates books and magazines especially made for persons who cannot use regular printed material because of a visual, physical or reading disability. The State Library is located in Raleigh but offers mailing services throughout the state. To learn more and apply visit: statelibrary.ncdcr.gov/lbph.
