The trail system previously known as the 286 East Mountain Bike Trails is being renamed Haleys Branch Trails at Lake Crabtree. The trails include the Wake County-leased portion of 286 East and will also incorporate additional leased land from Umstead State Park. The lands north and west of Haleys Branch are not part of the leased area.
The 151-acre property formerly known as “286 East” is located between William B. Umstead State Park and Lake Crabtree County Park and has been leased by Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space from the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority since Jan. 1, 2023.
The trail system is named for Haleys Branch, the stream that forms the western boundary of the trail area. To help protect natural resources and respect property boundaries, land west of Haleys Branch is not part of the leased area and is not open for trail use.
