Harris Lake County Park – Bond Improvements

In 2018, voters passed a $120 million Parks, Greenways Recreation and Open Space bond. Renovations and improvements slated for Harris Lake focus on improving existing facilities at three of the most popular areas: Day Use Area, Disc Golf and Fishing Pond Area, and the Park Office. Construction is scheduled to begin fall 2025 and completed by fall 2026. The total investment for Harris Lake County Park is approximately $5.2 million.

Disc Golf & Fishing Pond Improvements

The gravel lot used for disc golf and fishing pond parking is currently closed while construction is underway.

Please use the overflow parking field (first gravel lot on your left after entering the park) for access to these areas.

Comfort Station

The new facility adds four single-occupancy restrooms with running water and flushing toilets.

Picnic Shelter

The shelter with four picnic tables provides a covered area for visitors to gather, rest or have a meal together.

Junior Disc Golf Course

In coordination with Capital Area Disc League (CADL), the new 9-hole junior disc golf course provides includes an accessible tee pad and is perfect for those that are new to sport of disc golf.

Canoe Storage and Pond Access

The canoe storage building provides a covered storage area for the park’s fleet of program canoes, canoeing equipment and fishing gear. Improvements include a new fishing platform for those that enjoy fishing at the Fishing Pond.

Increased Parking Capacity

The asphalt parking lot adds 32 additional spaces for a total of 70 spaces. The expanded parking area includes designated accessible parking spaces, open space for event organizers and connections for food trucks.

The improvements include a new restroom facility, parking lot expansion, small picnic area, 9-hole junior disc golf course, canoe storage structure and dock and an accessible pathway to the Fishing Pond.

Day Use Improvements

The project includes constructing a new accessible kayak launch, accessible loading zone to support small non-motorized boats and 19 additional parking spaces.

Access to the Cartop Boat Launch area, including the entrance to the Peninsula Trail located on the Cartop Boat Launch pathway, is currently closed.

To access the start of the Peninsula Trail, please use the secondary entrance, located near the beginning of our Day Use parking area (the parking lot that serves the Loblolly Shelter and open playfield). If you are looking for a place to launch your canoe, kayak, or paddleboard while the Cartop Boat Launch is closed, please use the shore access located in the powerline easement near our picnic area.

Park Office Improvements

To better serve the park patrons, the Park office includes a 950 square-foot expansion and renovation of the office building which will provide additional space for the park staff, along with dedicated classroom space for educational programs. The design also includes the addition of a new pole barn structure and associated improvements to the maintenance yard.
