Wake County Courthouse
The Courthouse Operations Division personnel are entrusted to perform certain responsibilities to ensure that the courts and other key County government entities remain open and functional for duties. The Deputies assigned to Courthouse Operations Division play a vital role and responsibility for all persons’ entering the Wake County Justice Center and the Wake County Courthouse. Every person must pass through a metal detector and all packages, bags, electronics must be screened to ensure that there are no weapons or items deemed illegal enter the building. Several Deputies assigned to these courthouse spots are tasked with assisting and overseeing the safety and security of this screening process from elevated Security Stations located throughout these buildings. (Please see below for a list of items that are restricted from entry.)
The largest portion of the Wake County Courthouse Deputies are tasked with providing safety and security for the 44 district and superior courtrooms handling all of Wake Counties civil and criminal court cases. These Deputies facilitate the formal and opening and closings of all Court sessions, maintaining that all protocols are observed and that the court is prepared for proceedings. These same Deputies are also responsible for the management, care and control of inmates while appearing before the Judges in court. Our Wake County Deputies also oversee the safety and security of all Wake County Commissioners meetings that are open to the public. Wake County Courthouse Deputies ensure the safety and security of all individuals within the courthouses, including all members of the public, the Judges, Board of Commissioners, County and State elected officials.
The deputies assigned to the Courthouse Division are also prepared to handle other emergencies such as building lockdowns, evacuations, medical incidents and respond to any other events that occur in or outside the Wake County Justice Center, Wake County Courthouse, Wake County Public Safety Center, and any other areas that are considered Wake County property that surrounds these buildings.
