The Crime Scene Sciences Division is responsible for responding to requests for crime scene service by law enforcement agencies in Wake County. On average, the Bureau's Crime Scene Specialists respond to more than 6,000 calls a year in Wake County, ranging from property crimes to death investigations. 

The Bureau of Forensic Services Crime Scene Science Division examines crime scenes located in or initiated within Wake County. They identify, document and collect physical evidence; analyze this evidence in a laboratory setting using different chemicals and equipment; prepare detailed written reports; and testify in court.

The Crime Scene Science Division is now accredited under ISO/IEC 17025, making it the only crime scene unit in North Carolina accredited to the same international standards as forensic science laboratories.
