Join staff in helping to keep Durant Nature Preserve clean and beautiful at our “Big Sweep” event.  The “Big Sweep” is a county and state wide initiative to help keep our watersheds clean by removing litter. Please help us to support this great effort! Improperly discarded trash, and litter, is a serious environmental hazard. It pollutes the water we use and depend on; it has the potential to cause injury to wildlife; and it is simply an eyesore. Help us by walking through Durant Nature Preserve and picking up as much trash and litter that you can find! Volunteers will help park staff in keeping Durant Nature Preserve beautiful and trash free. This will perform an invaluable environmental service by removing trash before it reaches our waterways and/or injures wildlife.

We will be working in the woods on uneven terrain. There may be contact with snakes and bugs. The farthest that we will be from a restroom facility will be 1.5 miles.

Pre-registration is required. Adults must register and accompany children. If you are a group registering, a group leader must email prvolunteer@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to volunteer. Adults must register and accompany children under the age of 16. Everyone who volunteers must sign a release form. If anyone is under the age of 18, then a parent or guardian must sign their form as well.

Please bring a water bottle. Please bring your favorite pair of work gloves. Please wear sturdy close-toed shoes and clothing you can get dirty.  We will supply the tools and the trash bags.
