Big Sweep Fall 2026- Lake Wheeler Park

Lake Wheeler Park

• Zone Captain: Haley Kilmer
• Contact: alexandra.heinemann@wake.gov
• Date: TBD
• Time: TBD

Big Sweep is partnering with the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources to clean up the trails, parking lots, picnic areas, and open spaces throughout the park, removing harmful litter and helping protect our watershed. We need your help to keep our waterways clean! This effort is especially important because Lake Wheeler directly serves as a drinking water source for Raleigh residents.

Volunteers will help cover the park grounds, as well as the shoreline of the lake and pond areas. This will be a paddle and land sweep, with volunteers working both on land and on the water.

Please wear appropriate clothing, such as sneakers or hiking shoes, and bring drinking water, sunscreen, and a hat. All necessary cleanup supplies and boats will be provided. Paddling experience is required for volunteers participating on the water.

Registration is required.

Volunteer Requirements

• Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
• Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the water.
• Adults must register and accompany minors under 18.
• All volunteers, including accompanying adults, must sign two waivers: one for the City of Raleigh and one for Big Sweep.
• For volunteers under 18, a parent or guardian must sign their waivers.
