Separate filing periods for Soil and Water and Board of Education contests will take place through July 17
The Wake County Board of Elections will begin filing for candidates today for Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, the first of two remaining candidate filing periods for the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election. A separate filing period for Wake County Board of Education Districts 1, 2, 7 and 9 will begin on July 6. Key dates, deadlines and filing information are provided below.
These filing periods do not include federal, state, partisan county or City of Raleigh municipal contests. Candidate filing for those contests took place ahead of the 2026 Primary Election, and a list of the nominated candidates is available at wake.gov/upcomingelection.
“These final two filing periods mark the last opportunity for candidates to get their names on the ballot before election preparations shift into high gear, which includes everything from ballot production to testing of voting equipment,” said Wake County Board of Elections Director Olivia McCall. “We encourage prospective candidates to review the requirements and deadlines beforehand to ensure a smooth filing process.”
Eligible Wake County residents interested in filing for candidacy may do so at the Wake County Board of Elections Operations Center, located at 1200 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh 27610, during the following candidate filing periods:
- Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors: Candidate filing begins at noon on Monday, June 8, and continues during normal business hours until 5:15 p.m. on Monday, July 6.
- Board of Education Districts 1, 2, 7 and 9: Candidate filing begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6, and continues during normal business hours until noon on Friday, July 17.

Wake County business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m. Board of Elections staff will assist with completing the notice of candidacy paperwork.
Notice of candidacy paperwork may not be delivered by surrogates or staff. Candidates must appear in person at the appropriate location to file. Alternatively, candidates may complete the paperwork in the presence of a notary and mail or deliver the paperwork and filing fee to the Wake County Board of Elections. The notice of candidacy must be received within the statutory filing period in order to be accepted.
