Families in western Wake County have a new reason to smile! Wake County has officially opened its latest Regional Smiles clinic, bringing free dental care to uninsured children and young adults up to age 20.
Building on the success of the award-winning Smiles at Sunnybrook program, Regional Smiles provides essential preventive dental services at no cost to families without insurance.
"Good oral health is critical for a child’s confidence, well-being and long-term success,” said Wake County Board of Commissioner Chair Susan Evans. “Expanding Regional Smiles ensures more children across Wake County have access to quality dental care, helping them develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.”
The newest clinic, located at the Western Health and Human Services Center in Cary, will offer monthly appointments as part of Wake County’s broader effort to improve healthcare access in underserved areas.
Since launching in 2017, Smiles at Sunnybrook – funded by a grant from the NC Office of Rural Health – has provided free preventive dental care to more than 7,000 uninsured children. Regional Smiles first expanded to the Northern Regional Center in February 2023, followed by the Southern Regional Center in October 2023 and the Eastern Regional Center in July 2024. With the new Cary location, the program now serves families in all areas of Wake County.
The clinics offer no-cost:
- Exams
- Cleanings
- Fluoride applications
- X-rays
- Education
Regional Smiles is available by appointment only. Visits can be scheduled by calling 919-250-4610 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
