After 33 weeks of extensive physical and mental training, 12 men and women are now officially certified firefighters.
The recruits graduated from the Wake County Fire Academy last night with EMT and firefighter certifications. The academy is held by Wake County in partnership with Wake Technical Community College.
“In a fast-growing county like Wake, it is essential that we provide top notch public safety services now and in the future,” said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Sig Hutchinson. “These new graduates now have the training and certifications they need to start off strong and join us in our efforts to keep our residents safe.”

“It’s been an honor to go through this journey with Academy 13,” said Brad Pace, training coordinator with Wake County Fire Services. “They showed up every day ready to tackle the tough tasks in front of them. I look forward to seeing them advance in the profession we love so much.”
