In-person tax payments to end in four Wake County towns

Starting July 1, 2025, the towns of Apex, Holly Springs, Knightdale and Rolesville will no longer accept in-person property tax payments. Residents who previously paid at these locations will need to use alternative methods, including online, mail or designated in-person sites elsewhere in the County.

“We’ve taken a closer look at how residents prefer to pay their property taxes,” said Wake County Tax Administrator Marcus Kinrade. “With a growing number of people using online and digital options, it makes sense to realign our payment options accordingly.”

This change reflects a steady shift in how residents prefer to pay. In-person payments at these locations have declined by 60% over the past 10 years.

Taxpayers now have several convenient payment options:

  • Online: Visit wake.gov/payonline to pay using ACH, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and more.
Note: There is no fee to pay by ACH (bank draft). A service fee will apply to credit card and digital wallet payments.
  • In Person: Payments are still accepted at Wake County’s regional centers (Departure Regional Center, Eastern Regional Center, Northern Regional Center and Southern Regional Center), the Town of Garner and the Wake County Tax Administration Office.
  • By Mail: Send a check to: Wake County Tax Administration, PO Box 2331, Raleigh, NC 27602.
