Splash into fun and find a furry friend!

Shelter Dog Swim Day returns April 25

Get ready for wagging tails, big splashes and plenty of smiles! Wake County Animal Center dogs are back for Shelter Dog Swim Day on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sliding G Ranch in Chapel Hill.

This is a one-of-a-kind event where shelter pups jump off the dock and show off their swimming skills. Visitors can cheer, laugh and maybe even find a furry friend to bring home.

"Watching these dogs leap into the water with pure joy reminds us why our shelter pets are so special," said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. "Shelter Dog Swim Day isn’t just about the splashes; it’s about giving these playful pups a chance to find a family that will love them as much as they love life."

Adoptions will be available on-site with fees of $5. Every dog going home will already be spayed or neutered, microchipped and ready to join a family the same day. Only shelter dogs will participate, so please leave personal pets at home so the spotlight stays on these adoptable pups.

Approximately a dozen dogs will participate in the event and be available for adoption. Visitors will have a chance to see their adventurous and sometimes special personalities in action.

One star from a previous dock diving day was Yasmine. She stole hearts with her fearless leaps and playful personality. Her new mom, Rachel Thompson, shared on social media:

"She is a gem. Just got back from swimming at the lake and she had a ball! When I saw this video of her online, I knew I could give her a good home with the attention, affection and adventure she needs."

Come out and make a splash with us! It’s a fun day of cheering on adorable dogs—and maybe even finding your next best friend.

Ready to adopt? Visit the adoption gallery online or stop by to see pets in person. The shelter is open daily from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week. The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue.
