In honor of National Rescue Dog Day on May 20, the Wake County Animal Center is shining a spotlight on its most patient pups, the dogs who’ve been waiting the longest for a second chance. For one day only, adoption fees for dogs who’ve been in the shelter more than two weeks will be reduced to just $25, and cats are “name your price.”
“There's a dog at the shelter who’s been waiting for you. Consider getting a hiking buddy, a cuddle bug, or a loyal shadow", said Wake County Commissioner Safiyah Jackson. “From mental health to physical health, reduced stress to increased social support, these dogs are ready to help improve your quality of life.”
There are 96 dogs, one puppy, 18 cats and five kittens currently available for adoption at the Center, with an additional 56 dogs and six cats in foster care, all ready to meet their forever families.
Adopting from the Wake County Animal Center means giving a homeless pet a second chance, as the Animal Center cares for animals who have nowhere else to go. These pets often arrive after being surrendered by families facing hardship, rescued from unsafe conditions or found as strays. When you adopt from the Center, you’re not only saving a life, but also helping reduce overcrowding, support responsible pet ownership and open space for more animals in need.
Each adoption includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping, setting you and your new pet up for a healthy, happy future together.
