Get ready to chase rainbows and strike gold this St. Patrick’s Day, as your furry lucky charm is waiting for you at the Wake County Animal Center! To celebrate the season, the Wake County Animal Center is launching the “Pot of Gold – Find Your Treasure!” adoption campaign. From March 14–23, you have the chance to bring home a new pet at a magically low price. Dogs or puppies will be free, and cats or kittens can be adopted for just $5.
“These dogs are hoping for their lucky break this festive holiday, and every kitten deserves a loving home where they can thrive,” said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. “Come discover your perfect match and find your treasure at the Wake County Animal Center!”
There are 97 dogs and nine cats currently available for adoption at the Center, with an additional 42 dogs and 15 cats in foster care, all ready to meet their forever families.
Adopting a pet not only gives these lovable animals a fresh start, but it also helps reduce overcrowding in the shelter, making room for more pets in need. Each adoption brings joy to both the pet and their new family, creating lifelong bonds. By adopting, you're not just gaining a new pet, you're also helping make Wake County a more compassionate place for all animals.
Every pet adopted from the Wake County Animal Center is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines, helping you save on vet bills while gaining a new best friend! Regular adoption fees are $95 for dogs, $45 for cats under five years old, and $15 for cats over five years old.
Ready to adopt? Check out our adoption gallery or come by and see the pets’ sweet faces for yourself. The shelter is open for adoptions daily from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week. The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.
