The Wake County Animal Center is facing a critical capacity, with only a handful of kennels remaining. As of today, the Center is caring for 236 dogs, two puppies, 59 cats, 197 kittens, two rabbits and two rats, and is rapidly running out of space.

“We are doing everything we can to avoid having to make heartbreaking choices,” said Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas. “The community has always stepped up when we’ve needed them most, and now is one of those times.”

To help ease overcrowding, the Center is waiving adoption fees for all dogs and cats who have been on the adoption floor for 15 days or more. The special runs from Thursday, May 29, through Sunday, June 8.

There are several ways the public can help:

Ready to adopt? Check out our adoption gallery or come by and see the sweet faces for yourself! The shelter is open for adoptions daily from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week. It is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.
