Wake County will temporarily close West Regional Library in Cary for renovations beginning Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. Renovation work will include new flooring, paint and furniture, as well as an updated layout to enhance the user experience. The library is expected to reopen in fall 2025.
“Investing in our libraries ensures that we continue to provide top-notch services to our residents,” said Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. “This renovation will allow West Regional Library to better meet the needs of our growing and dynamic community.”
This will be the first time West Regional has been renovated since it opened in 2006. Since that time, more than 5.7 million visitors have checked out over 16 million items.
The location is one of the busiest in the Wake County Public Libraries system, ranking second in checkouts, visits and Wi-Fi usage in 2024. This year, visitation topped 300,000, and in-library checkouts surpassed 650,000. Patrons logged 149,000 hours of Wi-Fi usage and 6,100 hours of internet usage on the public computers. The library offered 800 programs, drawing more than 25,000 attendees.
While West Regional Library is closed, patrons are encouraged to visit other WCPL locations, including:
- Morrisville Community Library (3.3 miles away)
- Cary Regional Library (6.4 miles away)
- Eva Perry Regional Library (7.7 miles away)
- Leesville Community Library (14.8 miles away)
Library staff will contact people with books on reserve at West Regional Library to arrange an alternate pick-up location. Additionally, with a library card and internet connection, patrons can access downloadable books and magazines, Storytime Anytime, and virtual programs and services.
