The Wake County Board of Commissioners have elected new leadership for the year ahead. Commissioner Don Mial will serve as chair of the board, and Commissioner Safiyah Jackson will serve as vice chair.
“I'm honored to serve alongside the other dedicated public servants on this board,” said Chair Don Mial. “Together, we’ll drive progress on Wake County’s top priorities, from affordable housing to public safety, while investing in the parks, libraries and shared spaces that connect us.”
Chair Mial was first elected to the board in 2022. He is vice chair of the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Growth, Sustainability, and Economic Strength Committee.
Vice Chair Jackson was appointed to the board in 2025. She is the current liaison to the Wake County Housing Authority and Passage Home Boards and chairs the Affordable Housing Committee. She holds an extensive professional background and currently serves as the chief strategy officer for the North Carolina Partnership for Children.
“Wake County is a dynamic community in a pivotal moment of growth; I'm excited to contribute my fresh perspective as a new leader to the board,” said Vice Chair Safiyah Jackson. “Over the coming year, I look forward to working together with the chair and my fellow commissioners to enhance the essential services that support our 1.2 million residents every day.”
Both leaders will serve in these roles through December 2026. Learn more about the Wake County Board of Commissioners and view upcoming meeting schedules and agendas on our website.
