Amendment to be discussed at next Board meeting
The Wake County Board of Commissioners will offer residents the opportunity to comment on proposed changes to regulations regarding short-term rental properties during its next meeting.
On Monday, the Board will hear staff recommendations and accept public comment on an amendment for overnight accommodation regulations. This amendment would eliminate the requirement for owners of short-term rental properties to live in the property. The Board will consider adoption of the changes at a later date.
“It’s important that we hear from the homeowners from across the county who will be impacted by this amendment, so we want to allow proper time for the public to be able to engage with us on the issue,” said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson.
Short-term rentals are currently an allowable use of property, but Wake County is one of the few jurisdictions that requires an owner to live in the rental unit.
Residents who want to sign up to speak at the meeting may register online and those who wish to comment but are unable to attend may submit comments online. Registration and online comments will be accepted between 9 a.m. and noon the day of the meeting.
