Wake County celebrates how residents find joy at local libraries during National Library Week April 19-25

Special event planned on April 22 for National Outreach Day

Wake County Public Libraries is celebrating National Library Week by shining a light on how everyone can find joy at the library. More than places to borrow books, libraries are vibrant destinations that spark curiosity, foster learning and strengthen community connections.

“Our libraries thrive because of the people who walk through our doors and the staff who greet them,” said Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters. “National Library Week is a wonderful reminder of what makes our local libraries such dynamic spaces that empower residents of all ages.”

This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” comes to life every day across Wake County’s libraries. In 2025, that joy showed up in meaningful ways, including: :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

  • 3.1 million visits
  • 11,282 volunteers
  • 12 million items circulated
  • 10,746 programs offered for all ages with more than 358,348 attendees
  • 285,702 active library cards

Award-winning librarian, author and new host of the children’s program “Reading Rainbow,” Mychal Threets, will serve as honorary chair of National Library Week.
