Wake County will temporarily close Holly Springs Community Library beginning at the end of service Sunday, April 26, to allow for the building’s first major renovation since it opened in 2006. The updated library is expected to reopen by the end of 2026.

“This renovation is an important investment in a community hub that has served hundreds of thousands of residents over the past two decades,” said Safiyah Jackson, vice chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “We’re committed to creating a modern, welcoming space that supports learning and connection for years to come.”

Since welcoming its first visitors 20 years ago, Holly Springs Community Library has become one of the county’s most active community hubs—hosting more than 3 million visitors and circulating over 6.2 million items. In 2025, the library recorded more than 109,000 visitors, checked out 225,493 items, supported more than 30,000 hours of Wi-Fi use, facilitated over 4,000 public computer sessions and offered 443 programs attended by 15,186 community members.

The upcoming renovation will refresh and modernize the space with:

  • New flooring
  • Updated paint and finishes
  • Modern furniture
  • A redesigned layout to enhance comfort, accessibility and the overall user experience

These updates will help the library continue meeting the needs of a rapidly growing community. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Town of Holly Springs’ population grew by 18% from 2020 to 2024.

Cultural Center to remain open

The Holly Springs Cultural Center, which shares the building with the library, will remain open throughout construction.

The Town of Holly Springs leases and operates the Cultural Center, and its programs and activities will continue without interruption.
