Wake County to close shelter at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School

Conditions in the Triangle continue to improve as Winter Storm Fern moves out of the area. Wake County is now moving forward with closure of its second shelter at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.

The shelter has hosted over 100 residents since it opened on Saturday, Jan. 24. Most of these residents were transported to the shelter from White Flag locations yesterday, Jan. 25. Two White Flag shelters requested help after one reached maximum capacity and another experienced plumbing issues. Wake County officials responded quickly to transport their guests to Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.

The shelter will close today, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. Plans have been made to help transport any remaining guests to other shelters or facilities with capacity.

Transportation for shelter guests has been made possible thanks to partners at GoCary, GoRaleigh, and the Town of Morrisville.
