The Center for Digital Government awarded Wake County as the first-place winner in the Overall County Government Experience category of the 2025 Government Experience Awards. This recognition highlights the county's commitment to delivering accessible, equitable and engaging digital services to its residents.
"Wake County is proud to lead the way nationally in how government connects with people," said Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters. "This award shows that when we put residents at the center of our decisions and invest in innovation, we can deliver services that truly work for everyone. Our goal is simple: no matter who you are or how you access information, Wake County government should be open, responsive, and accessible to you."
Wake County's comprehensive approach to digital government is driven by data-informed decision making and a strong emphasis on accessibility. The county utilizes website analytics to measure and enhance customer satisfaction, aiming to help residents efficiently find the information or services they need, and changing the approach or methods when the data shows this is needed.
"We're honored to be recognized as the top county government in the nation for digital experience," said Wake County Chief Information Officer Jonathan Feldman. "This award affirms our commitment to making government work for everyone. Accessibility isn't just a feature—it's a fundamental value. At its core, it's about ensuring every person has the ability to participate fully in their government."
Now in its ninth year, the Government Experience Awards honor states, cities, counties and agencies that excel in digital service delivery. It recognizes entities that have advanced digital services by modernizing websites, expanding broadband access and adopting tools such as generative AI, multilingual chatbots, single sign-on, live chat and location-based services. These efforts have collectively improved accessibility, personalization and transparency, strengthening the connection between government and the communities they serve.
