Wake County hosts special screening of documentary by local filmmaker

From closets to convenience centers – learn why what we wear matters for the environment

To educate the public about how fashion choices can impact the environment, Wake County’s Solid Waste Management Division will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary Refabricate at Marbles Kids Museum on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m.

“There are approximately 257 tons of clothing dropped off at our convenience centers every year,” said Wake County Commissioner Safiyah Jackson. “With the rise in fast-fashion trends, it’s important for all of us to consider environmental impact while also saving money and remaining stylish.”

Refabricate is a short experimental documentary about sustainable fashion innovation across the Triangle area. Presented like a collage-style digital fashion magazine, the film aims to educate audiences about the research and work being done to slow the fashion movement and promote sustainability. It focuses on the stories of researchers, entrepreneurs and designers.

The screening will be held in Marbles’ Zanzibar A room and will be followed by a panel discussion that will include the filmmakers, Solid Waste Management staff and interviewees featured in the film. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. Residents interested in attending can register in advance by completing the online registration form. Walk-ins are also welcome.
