In honor of the 50th anniversary of Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space, local artists are invited to take part in a special Paint the Parks: En Plein Air Celebration. This initiative encourages artists to capture the beauty and unique character of Wake County’s parks and preserves through outdoor painting.

“Wake County’s parks have inspired countless moments of joy and reflection with nature over the past 50 years,” said Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas. “We’re excited for local artists to share their visions of these spaces and help us commemorate this milestone in a truly creative way.”

Participants can choose any public park or preserve within the Wake County system as their creative backdrop, but advance registration is required. Artists are encouraged to create works that reflect the natural landscapes, wildlife and cultural features that make these spaces beloved by the community.

Completed artworks may be featured in a traveling art exhibition that will move from park to park from July through December. Depending on the number of submissions, a juried review may determine which pieces are included in the exhibition.
