Nominations are now open for the annual Mayor Frank Eagles Excellence in Community Service Award, which recognizes Wake County residents who go above and beyond to help others. The 2026 award marks the fourth year the County has honored community members whose service leaves a lasting impact on their neighbors and communities.
“Some of the most powerful work happening in our communities never make headlines,” said Cheryl Stallings with the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “This award is a way to recognize the people who see a need and refuse to look away, often without expecting recognition.”
The award is open to members of the public who give their time outside of their paid work. Nominees may be volunteers, advocates, or everyday neighbors who step up to support youth, families, seniors, or others in need and who have demonstrated at least a year of meaningful service. Wake County employees and members or close relatives of the award selection committee are not eligible.
Nominations for the 2026 Mayor Frank Eagles Excellence in Community Service Award are open now through March 13. The award will be presented at the April 23 Health and Human Services Board meeting. For nomination details and submission information, click here.
The award honors the legacy of Frank Eagles, a lifelong public servant whose leadership and determination helped expand access to essential services across Wake County. As a former Rolesville mayor and longtime member of the Wake County Health and Human Services Board, Eagles was known for removing barriers, advocating for underserved communities, and taking direct action to help people meet basic needs.
