Wake County residents are invited to attend a series of upcoming informational sessions for the Beyond the South Wake Landfill Study, a long-term planning effort exploring future waste management strategies as the South Wake Landfill approaches the end of its operational life.
The sessions are designed as informal, open house-style events where community members can drop in at their convenience, learn more about the study and share feedback. There will be no formal presentation. Instead, attendees can explore project exhibits, review materials and talk one-on-one with County staff and the study team.
All sessions will feature the same materials and information, with multiple dates and locations offered to make participation as accessible as possible. Each session will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.
“Planning for the future of waste management is a community conversation," said Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. "These sessions give residents a chance to learn more, ask questions and share what matters to them as we look ahead."

A forward-looking study shaped by community input
Over the next several years, Wake County will evaluate a range of long-term waste management approaches, including operational, environmental, financial and community considerations. The Beyond the South Wake Landfill Study does not make decisions on its own; it provides data, analysis and public feedback to help inform future County discussions.
Community participation plays an important role throughout the process. Additional updates, materials and future engagement opportunities will continue to be shared on the project website.
