Wake County is offering residents another opportunity to weigh in on how the Eastern Wake area will grow and develop over the next decade. Planners will hold an interactive, in-person meeting from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Eastern Regional Center in Zebulon.

As part of the process to develop the Eastern Wake Area Plan, this event gives community members the chance to speak directly with planning staff, ask questions and share input that will help shape the area.

“This is a great chance for residents interested in the Eastern Wake area to speak with staff face-to-face,” said Don Mial, vice chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “It’s important to us that this plan reflects the community’s priorities, so we hope to hear from as many people as possible.”

The Eastern Wake Area Plan focuses on how a 46,000-acre area of northeastern Wake County should grow and develop. Approximately 16,000 people live in this 72-square-mile area, which is bordered by Franklin, Johnston and Nash counties.

This is the fifth of seven areas being studied as part of PLANWake, the County’s comprehensive planning effort. Previous plans have been completed for the Lower Swift Creek, Middle Creek, Lower Neuse and Western Wake areas.

Community input is essential to this process. The plan will help determine the future of the built environment in eastern Wake — including homes, buildings, roads, open spaces, farms and infrastructure — and it needs to reflect the needs, values and vision of the people who live and work there.

In addition to the in-person meeting on April 16, residents can continue to engage with the planning process online. Visit wake.gov/EW to:

  • View an interactive map and share feedback
  • Take the community survey
  • Sign up for email updates

Residents can also reach out to planning staff directly at areaplan@wake.gov or 919-856-6310 (option 8).

Wake County planners will continue engaging the public in the months ahead and expect to share a draft of the Eastern Wake Area Plan by late summer.
