Lawyers in Your Library pilot program helped 113 families in 2024

Local attorney Katie King knows how daunting it can be for people facing legal issues to navigate the court system — especially without an attorney. A volunteer with Wake County’s Lawyers in Your Library, a program that provides free family law legal support at libraries across the county, King has seen firsthand how vital the service is for the community.
“Most days, we have people lined up at the library door waiting for the program to begin,” said King, an attorney with Wake Family Law Group. “They often come in scared or intimidated by the legal process, and they leave feeling empowered and hopeful just from getting a little bit of information from an attorney. The need is so great, and the clients are so thankful.”
Now in its second year, Lawyers in Your Library is a collaboration between Wake County Public Libraries and the Wake County Legal Support Center. Following a successful pilot that helped 113 families in 2024, the program is back with more sessions in 2025. The first program takes place Saturday at Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex.
“We were excited about the success of Lawyers in Your Library in 2024, and we look forward to seeing even more people benefit from the program this year,” said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. “These free legal consultations help families navigate complex legal matters with the confidence and support they need to make informed decisions.”
