Wake County Public Libraries is honoring Women’s History Month in March with a series of engaging programs and curated booklists that highlight the achievements, creativity and resilience of women throughout history.

The month-long celebration will feature virtual and in-person events for all ages, including author talks, craft activities and educational programs. All programs are free, but registration is required for some.

“Women’s History Month is an opportunity to reflect on the contributions women have made, and continue to make, in shaping our communities,” said Wake County Commissioner Shinica Thomas. “We encourage everyone to join us for these programs and explore our booklists to learn and be inspired.”

Featured programs include:

  • NC Women at War
    March 4 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Virtual
Explore the vital role of women in North Carolina’s military history through original records and photographs from the State Archives of North Carolina. Military archivist Ashley Latta Post will highlight stories of women’s service, leadership and sacrifice — from support roles on the homefront to frontline contributions including accounts from the Revolutionary War to present day.

  • Author Talk with Jennifer Dasal
    March 12 | 6:30–7:30 p.m.
    Virtual
Jennifer Dasal presents the never-before-told story of the Club, a female-only residence known as The American Girls' Club in Paris, where women forged connections with luminaries like Auguste Rodin and Gertrude Stein or became activists through their relationships with the likes of Emmeline Pankhurst. These women's lives revealed the power of the Club itself, and the way that having a safe home for single women of ambition allowed them to grow as teachers, artists, suffragists and people.
