Since 1996, the Southern Regional Center has helped bring Wake County services closer to communities outside of Raleigh. The center has transformed how residents in Southern Wake County access support, care and resources. What began as the County’s first regional center became the foundation for a countywide model focused on meeting residents where they are.
“For 30 years, the Southern Regional Center has brought essential County services to neighborhoods furthest from downtown Raleigh,” said Safiyah Jackson, Vice Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “Celebrating this milestone honors the value of a community hub where residents can seamlessly connect to everything from civic and community support to health and human services.”
Over the past three decades, thousands of residents have accessed services including:
- Children and family services
- Employment assistance
- Food and energy assistance
- Foster care and adoption
- Medicaid
- Public Health services
- Senior and adult services
- Transportation services
- Vital records
- WIC services
The center also provides County services such as marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, tax administration support, building inspections and water testing.
What began as one regional center has since grown into a countywide network that includes the Northern Regional Center, Eastern Regional Center, Departure Regional Center and Western Human Services Center.
Today, the Southern Regional Center continues to serve residents from Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Apex, Willow Spring, South Raleigh and surrounding communities while working closely with local governments, chambers of commerce and community organizations to connect residents with resources and support.
