Wake Libraries to celebrate National Library Week

Wake County Public Libraries is excited to kick off National Library Week and highlight the vital role libraries play in our community. This year’s theme, “Drawn to the Library,” will showcase how libraries inspire curiosity, provide entertainment and serve as essential learning hubs for all ages.

“Libraries thrive because of the support of our community and the dedication of our staff,” said Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters. “National Library Week is a perfect time to celebrate and, for anyone who hasn’t visited us, discover what makes Wake County Public Libraries a welcoming space for all.”

National Library Week is also a time to reflect. In 2024, Wake County Public Libraries continued to be a cornerstone of learning and connections. Here's a look at how we served you:

  • 3 million visitors
  • 11.8 million items circulated
  • 10,506 programs offered for all ages with more than 315,000 visitors participating
  • 62,577 new library cards issued

National Library Week
First observed in 1958 with the theme “Wake Up and Read!” National Library Week has recognized the invaluable contributions of libraries for 67 years. This year’s theme, “Drawn to the Library,” celebrates the many ways people explore libraries for education and entertainment.

Whether visitors come to the library for engaging programs, the latest bestselling novel or the joy of discovering something new, we hope you’ll take this opportunity to embrace all we offer—and share the good news of libraries with friends and family.
