Get drawn into a summer of color and creativity with Wake County Public Libraries! The 2025 Summer Reading Program, Color Our World, kicks off Saturday, with special events happening at libraries across the county all weekend.

This year’s program runs through Saturday, Aug. 23, and it’s open to all ages. Kids, teens and adults can dive into great stories and earn rewards for reading and more.

“Reading during the summer keeps minds active and brings families together,” said Susan Evans, chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “I encourage everyone to join in on the fun—whether you're reading aloud with your child, listening to an audiobook on a road trip or enjoying your own page-turner on the beach.”

How to Participate

  • Pick up a tracker at any library starting May 31.
  • Read each day and color in a spot on the tracker (audiobooks count, too!).
  • Color in a star? Bring the tracker to the desk for a button or sticker and an extra raffle entry in monthly prize drawings at each library.
  • Complete the tracker by Aug. 23 and return it for a special reward!

Attending library programs is another great way to get involved and stay inspired all summer long. Plus, each library visit earns a raffle entry to win prizes!

Libraries across the county will celebrate with Summer Reading Kickoff Events on Saturday, May 31, or Sunday, June 1. From magic shows and Mad Science to puppet shows and performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Explore the full list of celebrations here.

And don’t forget to pick up one of our prize-winning bookmarks, designed by Wake County readers! More than 1,000 people entered the contest, and judges were blown away by their creativity. View the winners and runners up here.
