NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson presented Sergeant Collado and Deputy Garcia with the award for helping a teen in crisis.
“Sergeant Collado and Deputy Garcia are heroes,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. “They saw a child in danger, stepped in, applied their training, saved that boy’s life. They set the standard for the best of law enforcement, and we’re all grateful for their swift action and service.”1
Deputy Garcia was called to check on the welfare of a juvenile sitting on a bridge over a river in Wake County. While he was talking with the teenager, Sgt. Collado, who was off duty, drove by and stopped to assist. The two deputies talked with the teen, who eventually climbed off the edge of the bridge.
