On Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, the Wake County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of land and buildings for the replacement Southgate Community Library, to be located at 2802 and 2818 New Birch Drive.
The property has two new 9,786-square-foot buildings constructed on a 2.13-acre lot. In addition to completing construction of the buildings, a new connector structure will be built to link the two buildings together.
The design phase for the conversion of this property to a library will begin in 2026, with construction projected to start in 2027. The library is slated to open in 2028.
