The Wake County Department of Information Services (IS) is the primary technology provider for county departments. IS operates centrally managed operations and administration for enterprise, public safety and mission-critical systems, desktop and mobile services, network and telephone services, software development and management, and technical support and consultation. We provide leadership in the areas of business process re-engineering and work with the County Manager's Office to develop long-term technology strategies.
A Recognized Leader
The department has a strong focus on collaboration and customer service, and we are consistently recognized nationally for our technology practices. For several years, Wake County has earned a top-10 spot in the Digital Counties Survey. The survey is conducted each spring by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties to identify the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, encourage innovation and collaboration, enhance cybersecurity, and contribute to disaster response and recovery efforts.
2022 Government Experience Award Finalist
Wake County is proud to be selected as a finalist for a 2022 Government Experience (GovX) Award, Overall County Government Experience category. The GovX awards recognize the achievements and best practices of states, cities, and counties that are improving the experience of government services.
2021 Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 Honoree
The Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 is a national recognition of analytics distinction honoring 50 organizations using analytics to solve business challenges. Presented by the Center for Business Analytics at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, the initiative connects academia and industry, highlights best practices and applauds data-driven business impact. Honorees are selected by a panel of researchers and practitioners who evaluate nominations based on the complexity of the business challenge, the analytics solution implemented, and the solution's business impact on the organization.
2021 Government Experience Award Winner
The annual Government Experience Awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts and overall best practices of government agencies seeking to improve the citizen experience and raise the bar on how services are delivered.
Wake County was awarded third place in the Overall County Government Experience category for its redesign and rewrite of the county's public website, WakeGOV.com (now wake.gov). The redesigned site was launched in February 2021 and has a clean, modern design that is accessible and features an enhanced site search, language translation, a unified events calendar, and is optimized for viewing across all devices.
