Wake County Animal Center to Help Goat and Dog Duo Find Forever Home

A docile duo of unlikely best friends is melting hearts at the Wake County Animal Center this month, and now the search is on to find a rescue partner to keep these two pals together. Cinnamon the goat and Felix the dog came into the center on March 13 after their owner became unable to care for them any longer. Center staff are hoping one of their many rescue partners can place this pair in a way that is beneficial to both of them.

“People often mischaracterize shelters as dog pounds, but the Wake County Animal Center takes in a huge variety of dogs, cats, mice and other critters…still, to see such a strong bond between a goat and a dog is really special,” said Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. “We’re so thankful that our center has established such great partnerships with local rescues so we can send out a plea for this sweet pair.”

Cinnamon and Felix were living together when City of Raleigh Animal Control brought them to the Wake County Animal Center for temporary housing. It immediately became clear that the goat and dog were best friends – playing, eating and sleeping together.

“Goats are social animals and so are dogs, so when they’re put together – it makes sense they would find friendship,” said Wake County Animal Center Director Dr. Jennifer Federico. “In many cases of interspecies friendship, the species are not normally seen together, and sometimes, one is of a species that ordinarily preys on the other in nature – whatever the reason for these two bonding, it’s clear what would be best for their well-being is to keep them together.”

Staff and volunteers at the center have been moved by their heartwarming friendship and knew they had to find placement for them that would be beneficial for both species' health and well-being. The duo is not up for public adoption at this time, but the center will revisit adoption options if a rescue is not identified by March 31.
