Wake County knows many of our residents are eager to celebrate Halloween this year, and that's why our Public Health team is sharing the COVID-19 guidance and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help make it a spooky, yet safe celebration! The community can definitely return to some Halloween activities and traditions like trick-or-treating, while still avoiding activities that put you and your family at increased risk for spreading the virus.

Wake County Public Health strongly encourages anyone 12 and older to get vaccinated, but we do understand that many who maybe participating in Halloween activities this year aren’t eligible to get vaccinated yet. To help our community safely enjoy the festivities:

For Trick-or-Treaters:

• Incorporate a cloth or surgical mask into your costume as an added layer of protection, even if your costume provides a mask
• Trick-or-treating in small groups outdoors, or enjoying other outdoor activities
• Maintain social distance by standing back from other groups and crowded doorsteps
• Carry hand sanitizer while trick-or-treating
• Avoid large parties, gatherings and indoor activities
• Wash your hands before eating candy
   

For Treat Givers:

• Designate one person per household to hand out candy
• Put treats in individual bags instead of having trick-or-treaters grab from a large bowl
• Wear a face mask or cloth covering before opening the door
• Sit outside behind a table to give out treats
• Provide hand sanitizer for trick-or-treaters
• Wash your hands frequently
   

And for everyone, stay at home and away from others if you or your child feels sick or have been in contact with someone who is sick or has COVID-19 symptoms.
