Wake County Identifies COVID-19 Outbreak at Detention Center

Wake County Public Health has confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Wake County Detention Center located at 3301 Hammond Road in Raleigh.

This is the second outbreak at this location. The previous outbreak occurred in August 2020. No additional information about residents or employees within the facility will be disclosed.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services defines an outbreak as two or more people – residents or employees – testing positive for the virus.

For outbreaks, the county recommends that these facilities should follow the NCDHHS guidelines, which include:

  • Ensuring staff wear the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times;
  • Restricting employees from working at other locations;
  • Practicing social distancing when possible; and
  • Frequently cleaning surfaces with disinfectant.
