Transfer Program

Transfer Program: Woman looking at dog

What is a Transfer Partner?

A Transfer Partner is a government shelter or 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue that takes over the care and possible adoption of an animal.

What does Wake County offer our Transfer Partners?

  • Animals are vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped.
  • Animals may be spayed or neutered, depending on space and surgery availability.
  • There are no pull fees for animals that are deemed Transfer Partner Only due to medical or behavioral needs. Fees may apply to adoptable animals.

Become a Transfer Partner

Please review Wake County's Transfer Partner Agreement and complete an information form.

You will need:

  • 501(c)(3) paperwork
  • Copies of your adoption and foster contract/agreement (if applicable)
  • Your veterinarian's contact information
  • Contact information for other animal shelters that you currently partner with
  • A copy of your registration with the Department of Agriculture (if applicable)
