Limited English Proficiency (LEP)

Need an Interpreter or a Document Translated?

Wake County Human Services is required by federal and state non-discrimination requirements to serve all persons who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) by providing free (at no-cost to you) interpretation and writing translation services.

LEP or limited English proficient, is a person who does not speak English as their primary language or has a limited ability to read, speak, write or understand English. This also includes people who need American Sign Language (ASL) assistance.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ensures that LEP customers have meaningful access and opportunities to participate in services/benefits (if eligible). Title VI also entitles LEP customers to (verbal) interpretation assistance and (written) translation of vital documents at no charge when needed.

The Consumer Experience Management team is responsible for ensuring that free interpretation and  translation services are accessible to our customers. If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to LEP@wake.gov or call 919-212-7189.
