Wake County Medicine Drop Box Locations

Collage of photos depicting drug exposure

The misuse of unused and/or expired prescription medications is a public health issue that leads to accidental poisoning and overdoses. Visit Wake County Drug Overdose Prevention Coalition for information and data about medications, misuse and poisoning.

Protect your family by safely disposing of unused and/or expired medications at any of the medicine take back boxes in Wake County. When you drop off unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications at a medicine take back box, follow these instructions:

  • Cross your name off the medication label with a permanent marker. This is not required but it is a good practice. Medicine bottles are not examined when they are removed from the drop box and are safely and securely destroyed.
  • Keep pills in their original containers instead of dumping them into large bags. Medications can be removed from outer cartons but should be kept in original bottles as they were prescribed.
  • Contact the location nearest you if you have any questions or have a large amount to drop off.
